Lee Klapprodt, Division Director
Lee serves as head of the Planning and Education Division. The primary responsibility of the Planning and Education Division is to maintain and update the State Water Management Plan for the State of North Dakota. Division staff also participate in numerous regional, state, and local water resource planning activities; manage the agency's water education programs, including Project WET; manage the Drought Disaster Livestock Water Supply Project Assistance Program; and develop other informational publications.
Specific division responsibilities include:
- Maintaining a water project inventory and water management plan to promote efficiency in meeting North Dakota's future water development and funding needs;
- Coordinating internal agency strategic planning efforts to ensure that the agency is operating as efficiently as possible and that projects and programs are providing maximum benefits to constituents;
- Leading or participating in special studies that result in water resource and related land management plans;
- Monitoring water resource issues and determining possible impacts to North Dakota's water management objectives;
- Representing the State Engineer and State Water Commission on regional, national, and international natural resource planning bodies such as the Red River Water Resources Council, the Pembina River Basin Advisory Board, the International Water Institute, Red River Basin Commission, and the Lewis and Clark Advisory Committee, to name a few;
- Providing opportunities for adults and students to increase their understanding about North Dakota's water resources and how these resources are managed through the Project WET program; and
- Reviewing applications and meeting with applicants to determine eligibility for cost-share under the Drought Disaster Livestock Water Supply Project Assistance Program.
